ChARM – THE EASY WAY TO BE COMPLIANT
You will be aware that government promotes PRINCE2 as the only acceptable standard for
managing projects. Many organisations train only a few of their staff who are involved
with and working on projects. The tools on the market are generally designed to plan projects;
not to run them. The tools also tend to be expensive, and so, like the PRINCE2 training,
are only given to a few. Proving that you are complying with PRINCE2 is also difficult, and
tends to be done as a retrospective exercise – more time and cost.
What’s needed is a simple tool that everyone on a project can use with very little training.
A tool which lets the users be compliant with PRINCE2 as a by-product of their normal activity,
and which focuses on getting the job done!
The ChARM System is a simple, easy-to-use way to manage projects and teams in a
PRINCE2 environment. It is particularly useful for handling the many Work Packages that
fall out of larger projects. It adheres to all the best practice principles of project
management, distilled down to these four essentials:
STARTING: Define objectives and say how success will be measured.
PLANNING: Define activities, risks and issues.
REVIEW: Check this and next week’s activities, refine the plan, declare project status.
CLOSING: Review the plan; declare reasons for change and lessons learned, and handover to support or next stage.
The tool’s dashboard displays project status for all your projects; traffic lights show which
project needs your attention. You can quickly drill down to the weekly report, the detailed
plan or the project risks and issues.
The system is securely hosted by us so you have no installation, downloads or maintenance
to worry about. It is available anywhere you have access to the Internet and has been
running for over a year. It exports to MS Project and Excel to comply with existing practice.
ChARM: Project Management & Monitoring Tool
Training takes 30 minutes, but a half-day workshop to produce a project plan is the best
way to get started. The system is not expensive - £90 per annum per licence.

ChARM is being promoted by an increasing number of government bodies.
